There are a few obvious ways to avoid purchasing insurance:
Become an employee of a company that provides insurance for you
Contract with a professional who can add you to their policy as an additional insured
Work for the government
Work for a private association that assumes responsibility for your errors and omissions
Become a volunteer coach, educator, instructor, mentor, teacher and/or trainer
As you might guess, none of these methods for avoiding insurance is fool proof. People don't always honor their promises. Companies close their doors and leave you on your own. The government is always unpredictable. And, teaching doesn't guarantee somebody won't file a false claim or make false accusations about you.
Two Ways That Work
One. Form your own private membership association through one of the leaders in that industry and their subsidiaries:
Two. Join and existing private association like NCEAI as a Professional Member and create your own private membership association. If you join NCEAI as a Professional Member, Private Health Associations and Natural Therapies Associations will help you create and name your own private association.
Why These Two Options Work
When your clients become a member of your association, they sign an agreement stating they understand they are responsible for their own health, life, nutrition and wellness. They also absolve you of any responsibility for their health, life, nutrition and wellness.
This works only because they are a member of your private -- and not public -- association.
Forming an association to do these things is the tricky part. That's why you need an established company -- one that specializes in these things -- to make it legally and successfully happen for you.
The Natural Therapies Association of North America was formed by the Natural Therapies Associations branch of Private Health Associations. All three of us are there to help you create your own private health association to do what you want to do in your business; and to help your clients make their own decisions about their health, life, nutrition and wellness.
Disclaimer: Avoiding the costs of professional liability insurance does not avoid the need for personal general liability insurance. The agent who provides your homeowners or renters insurance policy can handle that for you inexpensively as a rider or endorsement to that policy. That's a lot less expensive than buying a separate business or general liability insurance policy.
